Asbestos is a fire-resistant mineral which was previously used in the building of properties both domestic and commercial. Common locations are listed below but there may be others in a property.
Asbestos was commonly a combination of cement and asbestos. The actual asbestos content can vary considerably dependant on the type and therefore can present different levels of concern.
There have been many different uses in domestic homes including:
Cold water storage tanks, flat or corrugated sheets, fascia and soffit boards for garages and sheds, lining cladding for fire protection, partition walls, rainwater pipes and guttering.
Some asbestos cement products if treated well may not be hazardous to health. However, should materials get damaged, asbestos fibres may be released and therefore may present a health issue.
If you are buying or selling a property through Hus Estate Agents and have a concern regarding asbestos in the property we would be more than happy to arrange an inspection to evaluate the asbestos content and any potential dangers.
